GUIDE 01 / CASHBACK

Cashback credit cards in India: what to compare before you apply

Cashback can be simple to understand but difficult to compare well. A headline percentage says little without the spending category, reward cap, fee, exclusions, and the way the issuer calculates eligibility.

COMPARE BEFORE YOU APPLY

Questions that make the comparison more useful.

01

Which purchases earn the stated return?

Separate recurring categories such as groceries, dining, fuel, and online spending from purchases that may earn a different rate or no reward.

02

Is there a cap or milestone?

A high earning rate can have a monthly cap, a minimum spend condition, or both. Compare the expected benefit with your normal monthly spending rather than an idealised total.

03

What does the annual fee change?

Include the annual fee, any renewal condition, and the realistic value of benefits you expect to use. A fee waiver is useful only when its qualifying spend suits you.

04

How is cashback credited or redeemed?

Check the issuer’s current rules for statement credit, reward conversion, timing, expiry, and any conditions that apply to redemption.

GUIDE FAQS

Common questions before you apply.

01

Does the highest cashback rate always give the best value?

Not necessarily. Compare the categories that earn the rate, any monthly cap, the annual fee, exclusions, and your own usual spending before judging the likely value.

02

Should I choose a cashback card only because it has a fee waiver?

A waiver can help, but only when the required spend is realistic for you. Read the issuer’s current fee and waiver terms alongside the card’s reward rules.

03

Where can I confirm cashback exclusions and crediting rules?

Use the issuer’s current product page, fees and charges page, and reward terms as the authoritative source before applying or planning a purchase.

CreditCardWallah may earn a commission from some outbound application links. The relationship does not change the need to read the issuer’s current fee, eligibility, and product terms.
